Why is Intrauterine-insemination done?

IUI (Intrauterine insemination) is a fertility treatment in which sperm is placed directly into a woman's uterus to increase the chances of fertilization and pregnancy. IUI is typically done for several reasons, including:

  • Unexplained infertility: In some cases, couples have difficulty conceiving despite all their tests being normal. In such cases, IUI is used to improve the chances of pregnancy.
  • Mild male factor infertility: IUI may be recommended if the male partner has a low sperm count or poor motility.
  • Cervical factor infertility: Sometimes the cervical mucus can be hostile to sperm, making it difficult for sperm to reach the egg. IUI bypasses the cervical mucus and places the sperm directly into the uterus.
  • Ovulation problems: Women who have irregular ovulation or who don't ovulate at all may benefit from IUI, especially if combined with fertility drugs to stimulate ovulation.
  • Same-sex couples and single women: IUI is also an option for same-sex couples and single women who want to conceive using donor sperm.

Overall, IUI is a relatively simple and low-risk procedure that can increase the chances of pregnancy for many couples struggling with infertility.

Who is the right candidate for IUI?

IUI may be recommended for couples who are experiencing infertility due to various reasons such as low sperm count or motility, unexplained infertility, or cervical mucus problems.

The right candidate for IUI is typically a woman who has been trying to conceive for at least 12 months without success or a shorter period if there is a known fertility issue. The male partner should have a sufficient sperm count, motility, and morphology for the procedure

In addition, a woman's reproductive system should be healthy and able to support a pregnancy. This means that she should have regular ovulation, open and healthy fallopian tubes, and a normal uterus.

Your doctor or fertility specialist will evaluate your medical history, conduct diagnostic tests, and assess your overall health to determine if IUI is a suitable treatment option for you.

Are there any risks associated with IUI?

IUI is a risk-free process. However, the chances of twins or triplets are high with this procedure, so it is good to check with your specialist. Also, in some cases, there could be infections. Hence, listen to your doctors to avoid unnecessary complications.

The best place for infertility issues! My parents struggled for almost 23 years to have children and this was the last place mum was successful with twins! My mother's and my family's life changed massively and I wouldn't change it for the world. No one gave my mother hope like this place and stuck to their word. The care is amazing and the staff is helpful, the hospital itself is so clean and nicely kept. The doctor is so helpful and very informative and is there for you every step of the way and so is the staff. For anyone who wants to get infertility treatments I would recommend it here for sure!

Frequently asked questions

1.How do you know if IUI worked?

The only way to be sure whether or not IUI has worked is to take a pregnancy test 14 days after the IUI procedure. It is recommended to take the test at the hospital and not go for home tests as home tests can be unreliable at times.

IUI has a success rate of 11.7 percent when the blockage is closest to the ovary. The success rate is as high as 38.1 percent when the blockage is closest to the uterus.

Even though IUI improves the chances of pregnancy, it does not alter the chances of having multiple. IUI does not influence ovulation on its own, so patients who have it have about the same risk of having twins or other multiples as those who conceive naturally.

IVF has a higher success rate than IUI. Artificial insemination is significantly less expensive than IVF and less invasive. It is generally recommended by the best doctor for IUI in Jalandhar that couples try three rounds of IUI before moving on to IVF.

The IUI (Intrauterine insemination) process typically takes a few weeks to complete, depending on various factors.

Overall, the IUI process can take anywhere from 2-4 weeks, depending on the length of the ovulation tracking phase and the timing of the insemination.

If you are experiencing unexplained fertility with healthy eggs and two fallopian tubes, IUI success rates are around 7% to 10% per cycle. If you use IUI treatment in combination with fertility medications your success rate increases by 15-25%. A single open fertility tube means one of the fallopian tubes is blocked.

Women have a 10 to 20 percent chance of getting pregnant with each IUI cycle. The more cycles you go through, the better your chances become.
